Caravaggio was born 28 September 1573, in Caravaggio, Italy. Caravaggio apprentice to the painter Simone Peterzano Milan for four years. Caravaggio went to Rome and worked as an assistant painter. Around 1595 Caravaggio began selling his paintings through a dealer. Dealers brought Caravaggio to the attention of Cardinal Francesco del Monte. Through the cardinal, Caravaggio was assigned to paint the church of San Luigi dei Francesi. The works caused public outrage because of its realistic and dramatic. In 1608 Caravaggio went to Malta and was accepted as an artist. Fearing pursuit, he continued to run away for two years. After receiving a pardon from the Pope, he was arrested and jailed for two days. Caravaggio fell on the beach and died a few days later on July 18, 1610.
