artist Claude Monet

Claude Monet (1840-1926) founder of Impressionism, was born in Paris, France. He is a close associate of the French painter, Edouard Manet, who helped move the art of Realism in the 19th century. Presents Monet painting with artist Edgar Degas and the writer Emile Zola as the bearer of the veil in Manet funeral in 1883. Degas created a ballet scene, including 1874's Ballet Rehearsal to show some qualities of Impressionism. At the beginning of his career, Monet created a painting style that focuses on the lights in the shadows. The study of natural light is the focus of the monumental painting, Impression Sunrise, completed in 1872. This work is the source of the term Impression.
